Cell Phone Jammers used in Iraq
The United States military are using cell phone jammers in Iraq. The jammers are being used as a defensive mechanism in army convoys. They were brought into action due to the high number of Improvised Explosive Devices or I.E.D.’s being remotely triggered with cell phone calls. The insurgents would wait until a convoy was on top of the hidden I.E.D. and detonate the device with a simple phone call. This was proving to be a successful tactic against the United States military until the introduction of cell phone jammers.
The jammers work by saturating the cell range of frequency with noise preventing any signal. The jammers are being bolted to the convoy vehicles as standard practice and have proven to be effective in preventing remote detonation keeping the forces safe from I.E.D. Since the introduction of cell phone jammers numbers of death by I.E.D. has dropped dramatically.
